Finally, you start planning to renovate your shower room after a year of thought. But one thing that you may haven’t decided yet about bathroom remodel is the choice between walk-in shower and tub, right? Well, we can answer your question in many ways, and in today’s blog, we have done that.

Plan Your Bathroom Remodel: Walk-in Shower or Tub

A few considerations can help you in decision-making whether to install both walk-in showers and tubs:

Do you want to live in this home forever?

If you plan to age in this very home you live in right now, consider safety first during home improvements. As you grow old, the chance of falling in the bathroom increases. According to a survey, 80% of people over sixty-five get injured due to falling on the bathroom floor.

So, consider a walk-in shower with a non-slip mat, handheld shower, safety bars, and a shower seat to prevent falls as much as possible. And, if having a young family, you can get a tub in the second bathroom (while having space) for kids.

Who will use this bathroom?

The choice between a walk-in shower and a bathtub depends on this. Here’s how you can decide:

  • If you have children, keeping the bathroom clean is a challenge. To make it easy, go for a walk-in shower.
  • For guests or aging parents, a walk-in shower is suitable for most if installed with safety features and is handicap-accessible.
  • If it’s just you and your partner while having luxurious space, go for a stand-alone tub and walk-in shower if you desire so.

How much space do you have?

During the bathroom remodel projects, we, MDM Custom Remodeling Inc, have noticed that the average size of a shower room is around 40 square feet. In that case, it’s perfect for a tub that takes up to 15 square feet but doesn’t leave an amount of space for an open floor. Even if you can save as much space as possible after a tub installation, go for a double sink and extra storage to create a spa-like environment.

Now, if you have a small bathroom with 32 square feet around, go for a walk-in shower with a footprint of 9 square feet! It means you can have an additional percentage of open floor space that you can utilize with a floating vanity to add style.
